Can I give a gift of securities (stocks or bonds)?

Yes, transferring securities held long term to the Media Research Center allows you to make a gift and receive a charitable deduction equal to the full, fair market value of the securities. You pay no capital gains on your gift and neither does the MRC.

The best method of transferring these assets to the MRC is to contact your broker and electronically transfer your stock from your account to the MRC's account at Raymond James. Avoid selling the assets and then making a gift of the proceeds, because this will trigger a capital gains liability for you.

In order for the Media Research Center to acknowledge your gift and provide you with an IRS receipt, please take the following steps:

Call the MRC at (800) 672-1423 and let us know that you would like to make a gift of stock. Provide your name, your phone number, the name of the stock you are giving, and the number of shares (e.g 20 shares of Microsoft). Call your broker with the information below and ask your broker to contact our investment managers.

Name: Raymond James
MRC Investment Managers: Dellinger, Dolan, McCurdy & Phillips

Does the MRC accept matching gifts?

Yes. All you need to do is fill out your company's matching gift form and sent it along with your contribution to the Media Research Center. We will fill out our portion of the form and forward it along to the company. After verifying the contribution, the company will send the matching gift check to the MRC.

How can I establish an endowment at MRC?

You can endow a specific issue, program, or fellow in any issue area covered by the Media Research Center. For more information on establishing an endowment, please call our office at (800) 672-1423.

Can I designate my gift to a certain program or department/division?

Yes, while most Media Research Center members support our work through general support, you may also designate your gift to be used to support the important work of a specific program or division within the MRC. Our development associates are available to work with you and your advisors to find a particular program or division that you are enthusiastic about. Please call our office at (800) 672-1423.

Can I establish a gift annuity through MRC?

Yes, a charitable gift annuity offers you the unique opportunity to help the MRC while receiving a guaranteed, partially tax-free, lifetime income stream and current tax savings in return. Your gift annuity will make the MRC a part of your legacy and help ensure that America's Media Watchdog will continue to expose, document, and neutralize liberal media bias for years to come.

A CGA offers this fixed lifetime income stream based on your ages at the time the annuity is established. Since a charitable gift is involved, the annuity rates offered by the MRC may be lower than those available through commercial annuities offered by insurance companies and other financial institutions.

For more information and to receive a personal summary of benefits, please call James Nolan at (800) 672-1423.

Can I provide for MRC through my will or estate?

Yes, a bequest to the Media Research Center can be a gift of a specific dollar amount, a specific piece of property, a percentage of an estate, or all or part of the residue of an estate. You can also name the MRC as a contingent beneficiary if someone named in your will is no longer living at the time of your passing. Gifts to the MRC through your will are totally free of estate tax.

A bequest to the Media Research Center is easy to arrange and can be made by including the following words in your will:

I give, devise, and bequeath to the Media Research Center, 325 South Patrick Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 (insert amount of money, percentage of estate, or describe property) to be used for its educational purposes.

Any type of cash, securities, personal property or real estate can be given through a bequest. The MRC can also be named the beneficiary of assets which often pass outside a will, such as IRAs, pension plans, life insurance, or assets held in a trust.
