Dan Rather Video Bias Contrasts:
1987
Iran-Contra Report vs. 1999 Cox Report
|
November 18,
1987: In a late-night special report titled "Divided Judgment," Dan Rather ignored the minority's judgment. He began by quoting liberally from the Democratic majority's scathing attack on Ronald Reagan, who created "one of the worst credibility crises in U.S. history." Rather himself blamed Reagan by describing the scandal as Reagan's "debacle" and "fiasco."

May 25,
1999: On the night of the Cox Report, Rather portrayed the bipartisan probe as a partisan circus over "long-leaked" nuclear secrets, and presented the White House line without questioning the accuracy of their claims. Instead of hammering the White House, he aimed to go "beyond the blame game."

1988
Bush Interview vs. 1999 Clinton Interview
|
January
25, 1988: In his infamous January 25, 1988 CBS Evening News interview an aggressive Dan Rather grilled VP George Bush about Iran-Contra, repeatedly cutting him off and arguing with him. Rather declared "You've made us hypocrites in the face of the world."

March
31, 1999: But on March 31 of this year when Rather interviewed President Clinton for
60 Minutes II he avoided Chinese espionage and donations and gave Clinton plenty of time to portray himself as defender of the Constitution against partisan conservatives who tried to impeach him. Rather asked about Clinton's "feelings" on Kosovo and lightheartedly wondered what he'd do as the husband of a Senator. for more details |
