December 1998

Missing Source

During the scorching summer of 1988, Dr. James Hansen of NASA made headlines by claiming, during testimony before a congressional panel, that the greenhouse effect "is here." Since then, he has appeared regularly in news articles and programs as a source for global warming stories.

But last month, Dr. Hansen wrote in a scientific journal that the "forcings that drive long-term climate change are not known with an accuracy sufficient to define future climate change."

Big news, right? Apparently not. Though Investor’s Business Daily reported the news on November 24, a Nexis search revealed that during November the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and The Washington Post all failed to report on the story.
