Statement from Brent Bozell on the Character Assassination of Henry Hyde

Tell a friend about this site

"How about an apology that really matters. Before Washington D.C. sinks any lower into the swamp on which it is built, President Clinton owes the American people an immediate public apology for this despicable slur against one of the most honorable statesmen of our time. But that is not enough.

He must publicly call for an immediate investigation into who is responsible for what is nothing less than a blatantly repulsive attack of character assassination.

"ABC News has reported the following: 'Two reporters have told ABC News that a senior White House official peddled a story to them that Hyde once had a girlfriend. Another reporter said the official was offering stories of sexual escapades by Republican House Members.'

"The conservative movement will not stand idly by when our most respected and revered leaders are viciously savaged by the Clinton slime machine. It is absolutely no coincidence that Salon, the Internet sleaze factory that published this story, was one of the first media outlets to report the Clinton White House was contemplating a 'scorched earth' policy of smearing conservatives.' This self-fulfilling prophecy is evidence that our White House is being run by a horde of ruthless and cowardly hacks who will do anything to cling to power. It is a classic case of 'Archibald Cox desperation syndrome.'

"If Bill Clinton does not immediately and publicly condemn and apologize for this latest character assassination then he will forever establish his legacy as one of deceit, denial, delusion, and destruction."
