Statement From Media Research Center President Brent Bozell Concerning Dan Rather’s Retirement
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Media Research Center President
Brent Bozell issued the following statement concerning Dan Rather retiring from the anchor chair on March 9 and being replaced on an interim basis by Bob
Schieffer.
“Dan Rather spent his career at CBS spinning the news to further a partisan political agenda. He fawned over Hillary Clinton (‘political
lightning’), praised the impeached Bill Clinton (an ‘honest man’), attempted to ambush the first President George Bush over Iran-contra (‘you’ve made us hypocrites in the face of the world’), and demonized the Gingrich Revolution (as an attempt to ‘demolish or damage government aid programs, many of them designed to help children and the poor’).
“Dan Rather’s legacy will be defined by his fall from grace during last year’s presidential campaign when he attacked the President of the United States with a story based on false documents. Incredibly, to this day, he has not admitted the documents and the story were false.
“He leaves behind a news organization that is a mere shadow of its former self. The days when the
CBS Evening News was the gold standard for journalism are long gone. CBS’s credibility is sorely lacking, and its ratings are slipping further and further south.”
