Alexandria, VA–The Media Research Center announced today the establishment of a new, unique program, the Culture & Media Institute (CMI). The mission of CMI is to advance, preserve, and help restore America’s culture, character, traditional values, and morals against the assault of the liberal media. CMI’s director is Robert Knight, a veteran newsman and long-time culture analyst.

Concerning the Culture & Media Institute, MRC President Brent Bozell said:

“Our new division will focus on the media’s relentless assault on faith, traditional values and personal responsibility. We’re putting together a team to expose how the media undermine the American character. Our goal is to empower ‘new’ media while encouraging ‘old’ media to be fairer.

“I am delighted that Robert Knight, a top-notch journalist and cultural observer, is heading this new MRC division. Robert’s experience and leadership will make CMI the dominant counter-force to the liberal media’s undermining of America’s traditions and culture.”

The Culture & Media Institute is being launched with a three-year, $1 million challenge grant from the John Templeton Foundation. Robert Knight, a former Los Angeles Times news editor and author of The Age of Consent: The Rise of Relativism and the Corruption of Popular Culture, was most recently director of the Culture & Family Institute at Concerned Women for America. Mr. Knight frequently debates on college campuses and has been cited, published, or appeared in media such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, Washington Times, NBC, ABC, CBS, The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, Oprah, National Public Radio and many others.

“I look forward to working with the MRC’s experts and unparalleled resources to expose how the media undermine faith, morality, marriage, thrift, generosity, manners, modesty, entrepreneurialism and patriotism,” said Mr. Knight. “It’s time to fight back hard in defense of American culture and American values.”
