CBS’S BLATANT SPINNING OF GOOD EMPLOYMENT NEWS INTO BAD NEWS IS DESIGNED TO INFLUENCE VOTERS

Alexandria, VA–The government reported that unemployment is at an extremely low 4.4% nationwide, while wages have grown 3.9% over the last year. How was this good news reported? CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric found a way to spin this good news into bad news: “But do the jobs out there pay enough? A big issue in the battle for Congress this year is how much the lowest-paid workers make.”

In response to CBS’s liberally biased coverage, MRC President Brent Bozell issued the following statement:

“This is typical of how the liberal media operate, especially going into an election. They take extremely good news – unemployment at a low national rate of 4.4% -- and focus on one angle of the story that can be spun in a negative way, in this case, the conditions of minimum wage workers.

“Of course, CBS and Katie Couric could have pushed two positives, the low unemployment rate and the fact that there are real people who have actual jobs that pay a minimum wage of $5.15 per hour, which is a rate higher than no job at all, i.e., zero dollars per hour.

“But with the election coming up, CBS chose to spin good news into bad. This is no surprise. The liberal media want liberal Democrats to win and they are doing all they can to ensure that end.”
